Key region showdowns highlight FGN on Jacobs Media airwaves

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

The Jacobs Media family of stations on Friday night will have three big matchups on air, and streaming, as the prep football season moves into its ninth week.

And once again, all three will be key region contests.

Fresh off its first-ever region win in just its second season, Cherokee Bluff returns home on Friday night to take on East Hall in another big Region 7-3A matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and you can hear the action on 94.5 FM The Lake. The Bears have put themselves in a position for a possible playoff push. Meanwhile, the Vikings are still looking for their first region win under new coach Michael Perry.

On WDUN FM 102.9, North Hall is finally getting healthy after a week off last week. The Trojans, however, will find the going tough traveling to Blue Ridge to take on Region 7-3A unbeaten Fannin County. The Rebels have won three straight. It should be an outstanding contrast in styles and kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.

And, on WDUN AM 550, the marquee showdown of the night, and perhaps the entire state, will take place in Roswell as two-time defending Class 4A state champion Blessed Trinity takes on Flowery Branch in Region 7-4A. The Falcons pushed the Titans to the limit in an instant classic in 2018 that saw the Falcons fall 21-20 in overtime on a just-missed 2-point pass attempt. Kickoff is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

As for other action around the northeast Georgia area on Friday night, every region will be staging key matchups. For a second consecutive week Region 8-3A will see a pair of region unbeatens vie for first place. This time it have Jefferson playing host to Morgan County. In Region 8-2A, five-time defending region champ Rabun County will travel to the always-tough Granite Bowl to take on Elbert County. And Banks County will play host to Union County as the top four teams continue their round-robin action.
