Cornelia Fire Department has a new leader and he has more than a quarter-century of experience with the agency.
“I am pleased to announce that, after an extensive search and interview process, I have appointed Billy Jenkins as Cornelia’s new fire chief,” said City Manager Donald Anderson. “Billy began as a volunteer firefighter with Cornelia Fire Department 26 years ago. He has served in a full-time capacity for the past 18 years, working his way up the ranks to assistant chief.”
In making the announcement Tuesday morning, Anderson said, “He has done an excellent job serving as our interim fire chief since Nov. 6, 2018, during which time the fire department underwent an inspection from ISO and the plans for the new fire station were finalized. I am confident that Billy is the right person to lead Cornelia Fire Department into the future.”
