Clarkesville woman charged after alleged shooting at another person

CLEVELAND – The White County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate an incident that happened earlier this month in which a Clarkesville woman allegedly fired shots at another person. 

On Jan. 8, Barbara Kaye Benfield, 53, was involved in an altercation with an individual at the Shiloh Recovery Treatment House, located at 47 Academy Drive east of Cleveland, according to White County Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Kelley. 

According to Kelley, during the altercation Benfield allegedly fired a gun multiple times at another individual. 

Kelley said the incident was not reported to the Sheriff’s Office until Jan. 10.   

Benfield was arrested on Jan. 16 and is charged with aggravated assault. 

Bond was set at $10,000.
