Both Gainesville City and Hall County schools outpaced the state of Georgia in graduation rates for 2018.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods released numbers for school districts and individual schools Wednesday morning.
The overall four-year completion rate for Georgia seniors was 81.6-percent, up a full percentage point from a year ago.
“Georgia’s graduation rate continues to rise because our public-school students have access to more opportunities than ever before,” Woods said in a press statement. “From Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education to dual enrollment to the fine arts, there is an unprecedented emphasis on supporting the whole child and making sure every single student understands the relevance of what they’re learning. I’m confident we’ll continue to see these gains as long as we’re still expanding opportunities that keep students invested in their education.”
In Hall County, 88.2-percent of seniors graduated in 2018. Superintendent Will Schofield said all seven traditional high schools in the county have experienced graduation rates of 90-percent or higher in three of the last four years.
"Even more significant," Schofield added, "is the comparison of today’s announced graduation rate to that of 2007. In that year (2007), the Hall County School District had a 72% graduation rate, which when compared to the 88.2% graduation rate today, shows a 16% increase over the previous decade."

Gainesville High School seniors graduated at a rate of 87.9-percent.
"The graduation rate of 87.9% for Gainesville City is a testament to the collaborative work within the district," said Gainesville Schools Supt. Jeremy Williams. "GHS and district staff work closely together to monitor the progress of students while ensuring supports are in place for credit accrual and recovery. We will continue to target resources for our students to be successful towards graduation and life beyond high school. We celebrate continuing to stay above the state rate while serving the most economically challenged and diverse student population in our region. I'm extremely proud of our students and staff at GHS."
