Humane Society of Northeast Georgia announces initiative aimed at saving lives of homeless animals

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia has joined forces with the Hall County Animal Shelter and Best Friends Animal Society to improve and advance animal welfare practices in Hall County.

"Northeast Georgia is one of the regions in the state that continues to be burdened by a tremendous companion animal overpopulation problem and Hall County, in particular, is overwhelmed by too many animals entering the shelter system," says Julie Edwards, HSNEGA Executive Director. "We have been working with HCAS since early spring discussing solutions to this issue and are thrilled to announce the support of Best Friends as we move forward.”

A nationally-recognized expert in the field of animal welfare, Best Friends offers a shelter outreach assessment program free of charge to organizations across the country. Each assessment is designed to create sustainable lifesaving impact in the local community. The multi-day on-site assessment, led by highly-experienced Best Friends team members, reviews shelter operations, community programs, and field operations for each organization.

“One of the reasons we are excited to work with Best Friends is their individualized approach to each collaboration,” says Mike Ledford, Hall County Animal Services Director. “The assessment will identify specific areas of need in Hall County and help guide the implementation of best practices in animal welfare by bringing resources in the community together to work toward a common goal: Better outcomes for homeless animals.”

Best Friends has already started working with the Hall County organizations on several initiatives. The complete assessment for Hall County is scheduled for later this year.

"Best Friends Animal Society is looking forward to partnering with Hall County to provide a customized assessment and support for the animal shelter and the community they serve,” says Kaitlyn Simmons, State Engagement Manager for Best Friends. “Best of all, ongoing support will be provided by Best Friends to ensure new programs and practices are sustainable for the long term to ensure the community’s success in saving more lives.”
