Oakwood city council approves rezoning, annexation for subdivision on Atlanta Highway

No one spoke for or against the rezoning and annexation request of a planned residential development at the Oakwood City Council meeting this week.

The application of Blue River Development, LLC  asked to rezone 20.59 acres at 3727 Atlanta Highway from Oakwood C-2 "Highway Business" to Oakwood PRD "Planned Residential Development;" they also asked to rezone 35 acres on 3619 Atlanta Highway from Hall County R-1 "Highway Business" and AR-III "Agricultural Residential" to Oakwood PRD "Planned Residential Development" like the first parcel.

Blue River Development is proposing 128 single-family detached houses in the space, which is currently undeveloped.

"We see that as meeting a need for housing here in our Oakwood area," said Oakwood City Manager Stan Brown. "We're very strong on commercial/industrial, very low on residential, so we feel like this will help meet that demand."

Annexation and first reading of an ordinance, as well as the rezoning of the parcel already in Oakwood, were approved unanimously by the city council.

Brown said they expected the homes to be in the $300,000 price range when on the market.
