Commerce runs over Hart County to stay unbeaten

COMMERCE — Commerce continued its dominating start to the season with a 33-21 win over Class 3A Hart County Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers (3-0) were paced by senior running back Dylan Deaton, who finished with 105 yards and two touchdowns rushing on just 9 carries for the game. The Commerce offense rolled to 417 total yards, including 373 yards rushing.

Commerce scored on its first three possessions. The Tigers got going qucikly as Sam Roach bulled in from 3-yards out to cap a five play, 79-yard drive for a fast 7-0 lead. Caleb Mason made it 14-0 five minutes taking a Nate Ray pitch in from 12-yards out.

Hart County fumbled on its next play and Ray connected withT.J. Trudnak for a 19-yard touchdown pass two plays later. Ray also ran for 122 yards on 15 rushes. 

After a bad punt by the Bulldogs, the Tigers extended their lead to 27-0 on a 16-yard touchdown run by Deaton.

Hart County, however, clawed back before halftime cutting the lead to 27-14 on a 19-yard Luke Lee touchdown pass to Cane Berrong and then Lee connected with Malachi Thomas moments later.

Deaton helped put thigs away with his second score of the game on a 8-yard run. Hart County (0-3) added a late fourth quarter touchdown but the Tigers would run out the final clock.
