OAKWOOD — Jefferson blocked three kicks, took advantage of a bad punt snap, and exploded for 35 first half points in a surprising 48-6 win over West Hall Friday night at Spartans Field.
The three special teams misues led to 21 Jefferson points and the Spartans (1-2) never fully recovered.
The bad snap led to the Dragons (1-1) first score and they quickly added to the lead to make it 14-0. West Hall managed to cut the lead to 14-6 after intercepting a Jefferson pass at the Dragons' 5 and then getting a 3-yard Michael Thompson touchdown run. But the extra point was blocked.
Jefferson would score the final 34 points to blow the game open. Two punt blocks helped set up two scores, as did a sack and a fumble recovery by the defense.
Quarterback Colby Clark rushed 7 times for 70 yards and scored twice and added an 11-yard touchdown pass to Garmon Randolph. Donsha Gaither had 89 yards rushing and a touchdown on just 5 carries, and Jacob Thompson came off the bench to finish with 71 yards on 7 carries.
Kade McNally, however, had the game of the night for Jefferson. McNally finished with 35 yards rushing and two touchdowns, made 13 tackles (1 for loss and a sack), recovered two fumbles, and blocked one kick.
The Dragons finished with 334 yards rushing and held West Hall to 144 total yards and just 70 yards rushing on 37 attempts.
