Commissioners vote on a new postal code identifier in Forsyth County

Forsyth County Commisioners voted during a work session on a resolution to create the moniker "Forsyth County" as a postal code identifier.

County attorney Ken Jarrard explained the resolution to the board before the vote during a recent work session saying, "The board of commissioners would be expressing its willingness, its interest, and, in fact, its approval of a request being made, I believe to the U.S. Postal Service, that the moniker 'Forsyth County' could be used in lieu of some of the various jurisdictional postal addresses we have in the southern part of the county."

District 2 Commissioner Dennis Brown discussed the resolution with District 5 Commissioner Laura Semanson and said, "It's simply an option..." and clarified that if a business wanted to use "Forsyth County" instead of the city address they could.

District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills and District 1 Commissioner Pete Amos voted against the resolution due to the lack of public input.

The change, if adopted by the postal service, will not cost taxpayers anything.
