ATLANTA — In a heavily-anticipated game between two state heavyweights, Buford's staying power proved more than enough, as the Wolves stormed away from Tucker for a 40-14 victory in the Corky Kell Classic in Atlanta.
The Class 5A No. 2 Wolves (1-0) led 14-7 at the half, but the Class 6A No. 2 Tigers (0-1) could not prevent Buford running back Derrian Brown from taking over, as the senior rolled up four touchdowns -- including three on the ground.
Brown finished with 136 yards rushing on 24 carries while also catching a 32-yard touchdown pass from Aaron McLaughlin. The sophomore signal caller finished the game 7 of 15 through the air for 154 yards and two scores. Austin Turner led Buford with three catches for 106 yards.
Elijah Turner also provided 74 yards rushing for Buford.
The Wolves play host to Jonesboro next week.
