BUFORD — The Buford softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday in the Rumble at the Ridge tournament sponsored by Peachtree Ridge High School.
Playing at home in the tournament, the Lady Wolves defeated Apalachee 4-1 to start the day then took out Lambert 10-2.
In game 2, sophomore Abbi Perkins hit her first varsity home run, an inside-the-park shot that got past the right fielder and rolled to the wall. The game was called after 5 innings due to the run rule. Buford senior Ansleigh Hollifield (1-1) earmed the win with 4 innings pitched, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs (earned). She also struck out 4 and yielded no walks.
Perkins finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double to go along with the home run and 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Kelly Paulson also finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, Mariah Wicker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hollifield also doubled and drove in 2 runs.
In game 1 of the day Hannah Morgan hit her first varsity home run in the defeat of Apalachee.
Amelia Veal (1-0) went 6 innings with 4 hits yielded and 1 run (earned). Kaitlyn Pickens earned the save with 1 inning pitched, 1 hit allowed and 1 walk.
Morgan finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Perkins had a hit, RBI and a run scored.
Buford will play host to North Gwinnett at 5 p.m. Monday.
