The countdown to kickoff continues with week of scrimmages for area teams

The high school football season is now just nine days from reality, and the final step before game week is upon northeast Georgia's programs as a full slate of scrimmages  highlight the end of this week.

Some teams will make treks into neighboring states, while others will play crosstown foes, including a semi-resumption of the Gainesville-North Hall -- or North Hall-Gainesville (depending on whether you're red or green) rivalry, which dominated the Hall County landscape in the early 2000s.

Other notable scrimmages include Jefferson's journey to Walhalla, South Carolina, which enjoyed a playoff run in that state's postseason in 2017. East Hall will also face off with Westminster -- the two teams played out an epic second round playoff battle in Class 3A last season, a game more suited for a basketball court or track oval, as the Wildcats edged out the Vikings 59-57.

We are also just two days removed from the launch of 2018 Friday Game Night and our full season preview, a supplement which will include 23 teams, videos, players to watch, can't-miss games, radio broadcast schedules and a full list of 2018 showdowns. It's almost here folks...
