LISTEN: UNG Gainesville hosts Georgia Film Festival this weekend

University of North Georgia film students will be joined by industry professionals, community members and others this weekend during the third annual Georgia Film Festival.

The festival will take place from Friday afternoon to Sunday at the Gainesville campus

The festival was originally named UNG's Skyline Film Festival, but this year the name and the mission changed slightly.

"With the name change comes a slightly different mission," said Dr. Jeff Marker, chair of the Communications, Media and Journalism program at UNG - Gainesville. "We're trying to fill a niche and be one of the festivals that helps promote the local and statewide industry, make sure this whole TV and film phenomenon stays around for good. To do that, you need to create your own content as well as host outside productions. We've got film makers from around the state, film fans and people who are associated with the industry one way or another coming, and it really is a distinctly different crowd that we're drawing since we changed our name and focus."

Marker said some highlights of the festival included UNG student shorts, discussion panels and a series of features Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. A full schedule is available here

"[Friday Night] we're going to show 'The Founders' at 7, and that is a documentary made partially by our own Carrie Schrader and it is about the 13 women who founded the LPGA, and it is an amazing piece of work," Marker said. Other feature films playing this weekend include 'About a Donkey,' 'Shifting Gears,' and 'Poor Jane' and 'Still,' which is set on Blood Mountain.

Tickets range from the all access pass at $45 to a $10 pass for varying activities. Purchase tickets online here
