DAHLONEGA — After winning the Southeast Regional 1, four University of North Georgia softball players were named to the D2CCA All-Southeast Region team as announced Monday afternoon. In addition to being named to the first team, Kylee Smith was named Pitcher of the Year.

Smith was named Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year after going 33-1 with a 0.85 ERA and 303 strikeouts over 202.1 innings in the circle this season. Earlier this year, she was also named the Peach Belt Pitcher of the Year. This is her second D2CCA First Team honor of her career.

Also joining Smith on the first team were sophomores Amber Johns and Shelby Hammontree, each earning the honor for the first time in a UNG uniform. Alishia Frierson was named to the second team for the second time in as many years.

The four Nighthawks joined six other Peach Belt student-athletes on the two teams.

The first team selections will move on to the All-America ballot. The D2CCA All-America programs honor student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The mission of the CCA is to encourage and promote Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by the school's sports information directors. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association
