As the quarterfinals for most of the Georgia High School Association baseball playoffs get ready to begin this week, the second round of the Class A Public will finally get under way on Monday.
An injunction by a Charlton County judge last week halted the Class A Public playoffs based on a pitch-count issue from a game during the regular season. A state appeals court on Friday overruled that order and the GHSA reinstated all teams in their current seedings.
That means Commerce will head to Emanuel County Institute on Monday (doubleheader, 3:30 p.m. first pitch) with a Game 3, if necessary, set for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the rest of the baseball playoffs will begin the quarterfinal round on Wednesday. Buford and Flowery Branch, both in Class 5A, are still alive and will look for semifinal berths.
The Region 8-5A third-seeded Falcons will head to Veterans after knocking off Arabia Mountain in three games in the second round. Buford, the No. 2 seed from Region 8-5A, is set to play host to Ola. The Wolves swept Decatur in the second round.
Region 8-4A champion Jefferson will play host to Woodward Academy beginning on Wednesday in the Class 4A playoffs. The Dragons swept Northwest Whitfield in the second round
Because of the court delay, the quarterfinal round for Class A Public is set to begin on Friday (May 11) with the semfinal round set to start on May 16. The semifinal round for the rest of the state will begin on May 15.
