Five softball players named PBC All-Academic

Ahead of the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament hosted in Dahlonega at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium, the league announced Tuesday that five University of North Georgia softball players were named to the All-Academic Team. In total, 58 players from the conference were named to the team.

Jordan Deep, Brittany Gilliam, Shelby Hammontree, Kylee Smith and Sydney Sprague were the five Nighthawks that met the criteria necessary to be eligible for the team. Deep, a junior from Buford, Georgia, sports a 3.61 grade point average while majoring in Special Education.

Gilliam, a senior from Chiefland, Florida, has a 3.46 GPA in Marketing, while Hammontree, a sophomore from Ringgold, Georgia, has earned a 3.65 GPA in Biology/Pre-Medicine. Smith, a sophomore from Suwanee, Georgia, has a 3.47 GPA majoring in International Affairs w/ European Concentration. and Sprague, a senior from Columbus, Georgia, has a 3.69 GPA in Special Education.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
