UNG baseball completes first-ever sweep of Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. — For the first time in program history, the University of North Georgia baseball team completed a series sweep of Francis Marion with a 9-0 shutout Sunday afternoon at FMU's Sparrow Stadium.

Andres Perez got the offense started in the top of the first with a solo shot down the left field line to put UNG on top, 1-0. After drawing a two-out walk, Perez came around to score in the third inning off a Conner Corbitt double, putting the Nighthawks up, 2-0.

Joshua Profit got in on the action with a RBI triple in the fourth before UNG put up three more runs in the seventh. Steven Tomlinson tripled to lead off the inning and came home three pitches later on Chase Sudduth's RBI single. Corbitt brought the junior home two batters later on a single up the middle. Cade Heil brought home the final run of the frame on another RBI single up the middle to bring the score to 6-0.

Profit hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth before Corbitt blasted a two-run bomb in the ninth to bring the game to its final score.

NOTES
- Derrick Pickvet (2-3) earned the win, firing eight innings of shutout baseball. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven Patriots.

- Corbitt went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead North Georgia at the plate. In the series, he hit 7-for-12 with six RBI and three runs scored.

- With the sweep, North Georgia has now swept every current Peach Belt Conference school except UNC Pembroke at some point in program history.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will start a stretch of 13 of the next 14 games at Bob Stein Stadium on Tuesday as they host Anderson in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
