New Oakwood City Park playground open in time for spring break

Children were back playing at Oakwood City Park this week after the installation of new playground equipment was completed Monday.

City Manager Stan Brown said Wednesday they saw children playing on the climbing towers, pedestals and merry go round into the evening hours.

"We actually used the children from Oakwood Elementary School during our Christmas in the Park event to help us select the preferred playground to build," said Brown.

Hasley Recreation was then contracted to build the new playground.

Brown said the old playground needed to be revamped, and city council members approved the funds for new equipment in 2017.

"This playground is one we've wanted to replace for a couple of years now... the other one was about 30 years old," said Brown.

Since the mulch was spread and the fences were taken down Monday afternoon, Brown said the children have found their way back to the playground.

"It's getting a lot of use already, hopefully it will be great for the spring break week coming up."
