President Donald Trump has signed legislation to rename the Clermont Post Office in honor of Zack T. Addington, a Marine who was killed while he was serving during the Vietnam War.
Rep. Doug Collins of Gainesville introduced HR 3821 this past September; the measure passed the U.S. House in November 2017 and the U.S. Senate in March 2018.
"President Trump's signature has cemented the legacy of a northeast Georgia here who gave his life defending our nation," Collins wrote in a press statement. "The Zack T. Addington Post Office will remind this community of our shared values and gratitude to American service members."
Addington, a native of Clermont, joined the United States Marine Corps in 1967 after graduation from North Hall High School. He became a rifleman in the 3rd Marine Division of the Fleet Marine Force and deployed to Vietnam that year. Addington, who attained the rank of Lance Corporal, was killed in action in May 1968.
At this time, there is no set date for a renaming ceremony at the facility.
