U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs to speak at Piedmont University Commencement

United States Secretary of Veteran Affairs Doug Collins will give the keynote address at Piedmont University’s commencement May 9.
 
Collins will speak at 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. at the Johnny Mize Athletic Center & Museum on the Demorest campus.
 
Collins was sworn in as the secretary on Feb. 5. He brings a career in public service and veterans advocacy to the event. 
 
As a leader of the Department of Veterans Affairs, he oversees care and benefit services for more than 9 million veterans nationwide.
 
A longtime citizen of Gainesville, Collins earned a degree in political science and criminal justice from the University of North Georgia, and a masters degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2006, he was elected to serve Georgia’s 27th State House District.
 
“We are deeply honored to welcome Secretary Collins,”  Marshall M. Criser. III, President of Piedmont University, said. “His commitment to service and leadership is an example we hope will inspire our graduates as they move forward into their own careers.”
