State fire officials hope someone can help them solve an arson involving a stolen vehicle from earlier this month.
A 2007 grey Dodge Nitro reported stolen on Feb. 14 was found burning around 4 p.m. Feb. 15 on Wilson Road near the Cornelia water works lake and Mt. Airy wellhead.
That fire was ruled arson, according to Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ Fire Unit.
Because so many people travel Wilson Road each day, officials hope additional publicity and the reward offered in the case will generate tips that lead to the person or persons responsible.
The loss was estimated to be $8,000, Hudgens reports.
Anyone with information about this fire should call the Georgia Arson Hotline at (800) 282-5804.
Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist. Callers may choose to remain anonymous. Calls are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
