The Gainesville Lady Red Elephants have won the last four out of five games, and are 5-3 right now. A lot of the success can be attributed to the play of Sr. guard Tija Blackwell.
According to Gainesville coach Alan Griffin, Blackwell is an unselfish player and a scoring machine.
Last week she averaged 24 points in the Lady Red Elephants' two wins. She scored 33 points in the win over the top-10 ranked GAC Spartans, and 15 points in a blowout win against Southwest Atlanta Christian.
Her outstanding play has earned her this week’s Conditioned Air Systems Athlete of the Week.
We had a chance to catch up with Blackwell and Griffin Monday to talk about her play, the team's early-season success, and what's ahead for the Lady Red Elephants.
