BETHLEHEM — The Gainesville boys snapped a two-game Region 8-6A losing streak with a 53-51 win over Apalachee on Saturday on the road.
The Red Elephants (12-8, 5-3 Region 8-6A) trailed 27-26 at halftime but used a 13-8 third quarter run to grab a 39-35 lead. They held on down the stretch to move into third place in the region with North Forsyth’s loss to Shiloh.
Cade Simmons helped lead the second half charge for Gainesville scoring 10 of his 12 points after halftime. Charlie Reisman led the Red Elephants with 13 points. Dre Raven had 8 for Gainesville.
Shermarion Clark poured in 9 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats nearly staged the comeback.

Keke Jones poured in 20 points to lead the Lady Red Elephants to the win in Region 8-6A play on Saturday.
Gainesville (18-2, 6-2 Region 8-6A) moved into a tie for second place with the win. The Lady Red Elephants opened the game with a 23-7 run in the first quarter and then cruised the rest of the way.
After taking a 38-18 lead at halftime, Gainesville used a 16-5 third quarter to put the game away.
Zaria Williams had 10 points for the Lady Red Elephants. Mattie White added 9 for Gainesville.
Bre Ash and Chyanne Brandon each had 8 points to lead Apalachee (5-16, 0-8 Region 8-6A).
