An Atlanta truck driver was killed in an accident on I-85 in the Buford area Friday night, and authorities are looking for another vehicle that might have caused the crash.
Master Police Officer J.D. Albright with the Gwinnett County Police Department said the fatal crash happened around 9:45 p.m. on I-85 south of Highway 20.
He said the driver of the tractor - which was not carrying a trailer at the time - left the roadway south of Highway 20. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Based on witness statements, the cause of the accident was due to actions of another vehicle that was no longer on scene," Albright wrote in an email."Investigators are trying to determine the best description for a possible suspect vehicle."
He said that no witnesses were able to identify a license plate number for the second vehicle, but debris left at the scene and damage to the tractor-trailer has given investigators some limited clues as to what kind of vehicle it was.
"It's believed it could possibly be a white or light-colored SUV, and that's as much as they have right now," Albright said.
Albright identified the victim as 59-year-old Calvin Jones of the High Point area of Atlanta.
