GAINESVILLE — Riverside Military football knew the seeding and knew they were considered a heavy underdog in the first round of the state playoffs.
They also knew that they had more than enough to claim the victory -- and the history that came with it.
The 23rd-seeded Eagles notched their first ever GHSA state playoff win courtesy a 24-14 victory over 10th-seeded George Walton Academy in the first round of the Class A private bracket.
That they did so was thanks in large part to the play of Jordan Battles.
The senior rushed for 191 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown blast, to help Riverside into the second round.
Thanks to his efforts, Battles has been named the Conditioned Air Systems Athlete of the Week.
AccessWDUN Sports and Friday Game Night's Morgan Lee recently caught up with Battles to talk about his big night, the Eagles' road playoff win and just what it will take to keep marching.
