Softball: Branch, Marist to play for 7-4A title

FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch and Marist advanced to the finals of the Region 7-4A Tournament Monday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

In the first semifinal matchup, Marist knocked off White County 8-0 in 5 innings. In the second semifinal top-seed Flowery Branch held off No. 4 seed Chestatee, 7-3.

In the Flowery Branch-Chestatee showdown, the game was tied 1-1 after four innings but Flowery Branch plated a pair of runs 2 runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. The Lady Falcons added four more in the sixth to pull away for the win.

Flowery Branch was powered by sophomore Aubrey Bourrie, who had a two-run double in the sixth inning, and freshman Avery Thomas, who followed with a two-run triple off the fence. Senior Alyssa Kimbrell got the win in the cicle for the Lady Falcons going the distance and striking out 12.

Flowery Branch and Marist will meet Wednesday at Flowery Branch to open a best-of-three series. They will play a doubleheader on Wednesday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex with Game 3, if necessary, on Thursday at Marist. The winner will take the No. 1 seed into next week's Class 4A tournament with the loser being the No. 2 seed from Region 7-4A.

White County and Chestatee wil play for the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds opening a best-of-three series in Cleveland with a doubleheader on Wednesday.  Game 3, if necessary, will be on Thursday at Chestatee.
