Flowery Branch, other law enforcement agencies search for counterfeiting suspects

By B.J. Williams

Flowery Branch Police Department investigators are on the lookout for three suspects they believe used phony $100 bills to make purchases at a Target store over the weekend.

Investigator Robin Kemp said the three used $1,100 in counterfeit money to buy electronics, gift cards and other small items at Target in Stonebridge Village Shopping Center.

"[They also bought] some small-priced items where they would get change back," said Kemp.

He said the 11 bills used at the Target store had five different serial numbers: LB61227773W, LB20915961B, LH21148446B, JF78849359B and LF85787384E.

Kemp said he did some networking with other agencies and learned that other North Georgia businesses were also victimized over the weekend.

"Kohl's on Hamilton Mill down in Buford and at a couple of businesses in Helen and a couple of businesses in Cleveland, Georgia," Kemp said.

The Belk clothing store in Gainesville was also victimized, with 10 counterfeit bills passing through there.

Kemp said he believes the counterfeit money is coming from the same source, but he is unsure if the three suspects from the Target incidents are responsible for the other crimes.

If anyone recognizes the suspects in the surveillance photos, Kemp hopes they will contact him at 770-967-6336 or call 911.
