MACON — North Hall pinned down its first-ever state wrestling title Saturday holding off Bremen 42-22 in the Class AAA State Duals championship at the Macon Coliseum.

The Tojans were one of four northeast Georgia area teams to capture state titles on Saturday.

The Trojans got a solid team effort with four consecutive pins late in the match from 113-pounds to junior Bryson Smith clinching the victory with a pin at 132.

North Hall coach David Nichols said it was a special moment for the program.

"The best thing about it was that we got to do it together as a community," Nichols said. "It' was just a tremendous feeling. This reaffirms to the guys that all the work work they have put in pays off."

Buford defended its Class AAAAA title with a 50-18 victory over Ola; Jefferson pulled away late to beat Gilmer 36-19 in Class AAAA; and Commerce won the Class A title with a 68-6 demotition of Wesleyan.

For Buford, the Wolves led just 21-18 before scoring the final 29 points of the match. They got a Major Fall at 120-pounds and then pins at 126 and 132 in consecutive matches to pull away.

The title for Jefferson was the 17th straight for the Dragons covering four classifications.

It was the fifth straight championship for Commerce.
