DACULA — Mill Creek moved to 3-0 on Friday with a 20-7 win over arch-rival Dacula on the road.
The Hawks edged in front courtesy two Matt Campbell field goals (47 and 37 yards) and held a 6-0 lead until Jonathan Gipson made the first of a number of impressive defensive plays for Mill Creek. Following a Falcons completion, Gipson pounced to rip the ball loose and fall on the resulting fumble. The Hawks scored after the turnover, Rafael Morales running in from 21 yards for a 13-0 halftime lead.
Gipson finished the contest with an interception -- his seventh, which tied the program career recor.
Brady Longenecker rounded out the scoring for the Hawks, connecting with Austin Williams for a 20-0 lead on a 36-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Mill Creek finished with 134 yards rushing and 112 yards passing -- Longenecker completed 7 of 14 attempts.
The Hawks defense, meanwhile, allowed just 174 total yards from the Falcons.
Mill Creek (3-0) will play its first home game of the season next week against Archer in Hoschton.
