Demorest issues Boil Water Advisory for many customers

DEMOREST -- A major water main break on Hazel Creek Road near Mt. Airy about noon Saturday has prompted Demorest to issue a Boil Water Advisory.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Demorest issued the advisory affecting water customers on the following roads in Habersham County who experienced low pressure:

Ga. 197 from Hazel Creek Road to Ga. 365;
Cody Road;
Kinney Mill Road;
Blacksnake Road;
North Mize Road;
Canterbury Trail;
Dicks Hill Parkway;
Rock Road; and
Antioch Church Road.

In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all citizens who are water customers of the City of Demorest in the affected areas are advised to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food for the next 48 hours.

Water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

Citizens should continue to boil their water until they are notified by the City of Demorest that the water system has been restored to full operation and that the microbiological quality of the water in the distribution system is safe for human consumption. The City of Demorest will issue a public notice to lift the advisory.

Water customers can call the offices of Demorest City Hall at (706) 778-4202 or e-mail [email protected] if they have questions or concerns.
