GHS Class of '52 holds reunion

By AccessWDUN staff

The Gainesville High School Class of 1952 recently marked the 65th year since graduation with a reunion in Gainesville.

This class attended high school in what is now the "Gym of '36" building on Washington Street and was the first GHS class to attend school for twelve years, a change mandated by the Georgia General Assembly adding a twelfth grade to all public high schools.

At the reunion, the class voted its "Most Favorite Teacher" as Leon Hughes, who taught English at GHS then became the founding principal at Enota Elementary School.

"Although members have lived in many locations over the U.S., through the years we have kept in touch thanks mostly to the efforts of class president, Jim Waldrep, who has maintained contact and spearheaded regular reunions through the years," said classmate Dan Clark. "Our 65th reunion was a special evening of remembering other classmates, funny stories, and fond memories."
