Burglary victim holds suspect at gunpoint in White County incident

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

A White County burglary suspect was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after he was held at gunpoint by one of the the victims. Capt. Rick Kelley with the White County Sheriff’s Office said in an email the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Post Road just south of Cleveland.

Kelley said the suspect, identified as 38-year-old  Levi Ross Grindle, is accused of breaking into a shop near his residence, also on Post Road. The victim reported the suspect stole a 2008 Ford F-450 truck, some cash, a bag of pretzels and some beer. As the suspect was leaving the residence, the homeowner met the offender in the driveway.

According to Kelley, the homeowner saw Grindle drive past her in her husband’s truck. She told officers she saw Grindle drive the stolen truck across the street to the neighbor’s house and park it in the driveway. The homeowner called 911 and then called her neighbor at work and advised him what was going on at his house.

The neighbor came home and found Grindle driving through his cornfield on an  Arctic Cat ATV, which the second victim advised had been stolen out of his garage. The neighbor stopped the offender and held him at gunpoint until the deputies arrived on scene.

Kelley said Grindle was taken into custody and charged with two counts of burglary and  two counts of theft by taking.

The investigation is ongoing.
