Playoff baseball: North Hall moves on, Buford splits, Leopards swept out of 2nd round

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

North Hall continued to be stout playing on the road taking down Region 3-AAA champion Southeast Bulloch in a two-game sweep Friday in second round baseball playoff action.

Buford, however, could not complete its sweep attempt against Wayne County in Class AAAAA and Banks County was swept out of the Class AA playoffs by Toombs County at home on Friday.

The Trojans used a pair of late-inning offensive explosions to beat the Yellow Jackets 11-4 and 5-1 to advance to their third Elite 8 since 2013.

Buford started strong scoring six runs in the final three innings to take a 10-6 win in Game 1. Wayne County rallied for a 5-1 win in Game 2 to send it to a deciding Game 3 on Saturday in Jesup.

Banks County, meanwhile, fell at home against Toombs County 12-2 in five innings and then 8-7 in eight innings to get knocked out of the playoffs.

North Hall next will take on the Appling County-Ringgold winner in the quarterfinals next week.

First pitch for Game 3 for Buford and Wayne County will be at 2 pm.
