ATHENS — For the second consecutive day the Flowery Branch baseball pulled out a tight one-run Region 8-AAAAA victory, rallying for a 3-2 win over Clarke Central Thursday on the road.
The victory moved the Falcons (13-11, 5-4 Region 8-AAAAA) within one win of clinching a playoff spot. Flowery Branch will play host to Clarke Central on Monday.
The Falcons scored first plating a run in the top of the first. The Gladiators (8-17, 4-7) answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
It stayed that way until Flowery Branch reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth.
After the first inning JC Sewell dominated on the mound for the Falcons. He went the distance allowing just three hits and striking out 10 to get the complete-game win.
Grant Lackey had two hits and one RBI to lead the Flowery Branch offense. Sean Akins had one hit for the Falcons.
