Baseball: Falcons hand Buford first 8-AAAAA loss

FLOWERY BRANCH — Freshmen Zander Sechrist Andrew Armstrong combined on a three-hit shutout over innings to lead Flowery Branch to a 1-0 victory over Buford in a key Region 8-AAAAA contest at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

The win kept the Falcons (12-11, 4-4 Region 8-AAAAA) within a game of third place Walnut Grove. The loss for the Wolves (15-9, 7-1) dropped them into second place behind Loganville (14-9, 6-0).

Flowery Branch got the lone run when Sean Akins knocked in Preston Felt.

The Falcons next will travel to Clarke Central on Thursday in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Buford will play host to Loganville on Friday with a chance to pull into a tie for first with the Red Devils.
