JEFFERSON — Jefferson snapped a two-game Region 8-AAAA losing streak with a key 6-2 win over St. Pius Monday at home.
The Dragons (15-8, 6-4 Region 8-AAAA) needed a win to keep pace with Oconee County and Madison County in the standings.
Brandon Trefren got the win allowing just one run on seven hits in four innings. Logan Garner got the save pitching the final three innings yielding just one run on two hits.
Carter Evans led a nine-hit attack with three hits and two RBI for Jefferson. Lane Watkins had two hits, including a solo home run, and Zac Corbin also had two hits for the Dragons. Kasen Rainey and Justin Cole each had one hit and Chaz Evans and Cole each added an RBI.
The two teams will travel to St. Pius on Wednesday for the second game, which has been changed to a 5 p.m. start. They will return back to Jefferson on Thursday.
