TOCCOA — Class AAAA No. 5 Jefferson dropped into second place in Region 8-AAAA after falling 7-1 to Stephens County Friday night in the three game series finale for both teams.
The Indians (12-9, 2-4 Region 8-AAAA) jumped on Jefferson starter Logan Garner for four runs in the first as Garner lasted just nine batters and two-thirds of an inning. Stephens County added two more runs in the third off reliever Will Wood and the Dragons (13-7, 4-2) never recovered.
Jefferson got its only run in the fourth on an RBI hit by Lane Watkins to trim the lead to 6-1. But the Indians added a run in the bottom of the inning. Jefferson managed just two hits the rest of the way
Davis Swenson got the win for Stephens County scattereing four hits, striking out six, and allowing just one run in a complete-game effort.
Jefferson next will play host to will play host to Region 8-AAAA leader Oconee County on Monday to begin a crucial three-game series.
