*Jake Weiers, Hall County School District Wellness Facilitator, has announced that North Hall Middle School has been named Georgia Shape School of the Month for March 2017. In addition, he has verified that this is the first time a middle school has received this state-wide recognition. Georgia Shape is the Governor’s statewide, multi-agency and multi-dimensional initiative that brings together governmental, philanthropic, academic and business communities to address childhood obesity in Georgia.
*North Georgia Technical College recently celebrated the life of Dan Dixon with his family and friends as a scholarship to the NGTC Foundation was created in his memory. Dixon taught masonry at the college for 30 years,
*United Community Bank recently welcomed second grade students from Mount Vernon Elementary in Gainesville. More than forty students and teachers participated in the field trip that focused on real-life economics lessons.
*The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Cottrell MBA program, offered through the Mike Cottrell College of Business, ranked as the fifth-best public, part-time MBA program in Georgia by the U.S. News and World Report 2018 Best Graduate Schools report.
*Thirteen Hall County students, one each representing K-12, are the county school system's 2017 Young Georgia Authors finalists. The works from the students (listed here) now move on to the regional competition for the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition.
*At the recent Georgia Association for Gifted Children Convention in Athens, the Hall County School District was honored with the GAGC Margaret Bynum Award. Dr. Meg Hines and Dr. Bonnie Cramond of the University of Georgia nominated the district for its "innovative programming, impact on Georgia, and commitment to rigor for all."
*Lakeview Academy and Hall County students swept the top three places in a "Hands Only CPR" student video contest, co-sponsored by the North Georgia Heart Foundation and the Northeast Georgia Regional STEMI System, and held in conjunction with the annual STEMi Summit. 1st Place – Lakeview Academy--Cameron Wells, Seth Munn, Courtland Gilbert, and Haughton Carswell (Teacher/Sponsor: John Simpson) 2 nd Place—North Hall High-- Evan Easton, Noah Hopkins, Walker Jackson, and Bartley Forrester (Teacher/Sponsor: Jill Ross) 3 rd Place—North Hall High-- Morgan Mize, Jacob Barrett, and Kelton Kieschnick (Teacher/Sponsor: Jill Ross)
*Gainesville High School senior Umer Khan is the winner of this year's Gus Whalen Communiversity Scholarship in the amount of $2,500. This is the second year in a row that a GHS student has won the scholarship.
