Truett baseball falls in shootout to Southern Wesleyan

By AccessWDUN

CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell baseball team fell in a shootout with NCAA Division II Southern Wesleyan, 13-11, Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears are now 17-6 and are now receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The Warriors and the Bears put up runs in each of the first four innings, but the big inning came in the top of the third when Southern Wesleyan sent 13 batters to the plate and brought home seven runs. The Bears answered with two in the bottom half, but SWU got those back in the top of the fourth.

TMU tried to mount a comeback, getting runners on base in the ninth inning and plating one, but it was too little too late for the Bears as SWU escaped with the win.

Austin Bishop finished 4-for-6 at the plate, while Patrick Overstreet went 3-for-6 with a home run.

The Bears will jump back into AAC play when they host Bryan College this weekend. First pitch Friday is set for 2 p.m.
