University of North Georgia sophomore left hander Steven Bower has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It is the first time Bower has received a weekly honor in his career at UNG.
Bower had the best start of his career against a strong Florida Tech team on Saturday, pitching his first complete game as a Nighthawk. He scattered three hits and three walks in his nine innings on the mound for UNG while striking out seven. The only run allowed was unearned due to a throwing error in the first inning. The victory helped North Georgia swept the competition at the Nighthawks Nest Classic this weekend.
The No. 27 Nighthawks will return to action at Bob Stein Stadium on Wednesday, hosting Southern Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
