MACON — Just how good is wrestling in northeast Georgia? Consider that the area's top grapplers could net 32 gold medals on Saturday in the GHSA's traditional championships in Macon.
Not too shabby.
Competitors from schools across the range of classifications will battle it out for titles, as well as third and fifth place consolation matches in the final day of the tournament -- including several representatives from heavyweight programs Buford, Commerce and Jefferson.

The Tigers will send 10 different individuals into Class A championship bouts on Saturday, as they compete for their fourth straight traditionals title. Meanwhile, Buford staked eight individuals to Class AAAAA championship matches. And in Class AAAA, 16-time traditionals champ (and 16-time duals champ) Jefferson landed five title bouts.
And that's just scratching the surface. North Hall and Jackson County each feature multiple finalists, while Banks County, Chestatee, Dawson County, East Hall and Lumpkin County will all be represented in championship bouts.
Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with consolation matches. The championship round is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
