HOSCHTON — Mill Creek did its part -- emphatically -- and got just enough help to finish the regular season as the No. 2 seed from Region 6-AAAAAAA on Friday.
The Hawks hammered Duluth 56-7 in Hoschton, which, combined with Collins Hill's defeat of Peachtree Ridge, set up a three-way tie for second in the region seedings. By virtue of tiebreakers, the Hawks (7-3, 4-2 Region 6-AAAAAAA) ended as the No. 2 seed.
Certainly Uriah Leverette did his part on Friday, the running back rushed six times for 138 yards and two touchdowns as he became only the third Mill Creek player to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. His first touch produced a 62-yard touchdown run, as the Hawks took a 7-0 lead on their first offensive play from scrimmage.
In fact, Mill Creek scored on a punt return (61 yards from Parker Wroble) and then their first play from scrimmage on their second possession (a Brady Longenecker TD pass to Austin Williams) to take a 21-0 lead on essentially three first quarter plays.
CJ Johnson also impressed for the Hawks, rushing 10 times for 135 yardsa nd three scores, as Mill Creek took a 49-0 halftime advantage.
The Hawks will play host to West Forsyth in the first round of the playoffs next week.
