Officials in Jackson County have set the date for a special election to fill the unexpired county commission post of the late Dwain Smith, who died in December.
Qualifying will run Monday through Wednesday for the March 21 election, Jackson County Elections Supervisor Lori Wurtz confirmed via email.
Smith, of Nicholson, died December 21 at the age of 74; he represented the county's fourth district.
