Forsyth County manager to retire

Doug Derrer, Forsyth County manager, will retire effective April 2, 2017 following nine years on the job.

Derrer first joined the county as deputy county manager in Feb. 2008, then served as interim county manager between Sept. 2008 and March 2009, according to a news release.

“Serving with the Board of Commissioners, the county staff and this community has been extremely rewarding and has resulted in many successes,” said Derrer.

“The most difficult part of this decision will be leaving behind a well-trained, dedicated and professional staff – a team built for a strong and successful tomorrow.”

Officials are working to determine the process of finding a replacement in the next seven months.

Derrer also worked as the public works director and public safety director in Hall County and city manager in Flowery Branch before joining the Forsyth County government.
