9/11: Gainesville fire, police departments to present colors at Sunday's Falcons game

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The Gainesville fire and police department honor guards will present the colors at Sunday's Atlanta Falcons game in honor of those who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.  Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the attacks.

"We choose to honor all who gave their lives that day fifteen years ago," Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith wrote in an email.  "Our nation lost over 3,000 people that day from all walks of life including civilians, military personnel, firefighters and law enforcement officers. Please take a moment to remember them, honor their sacrifice and never forget that day."

Smith added the department will not be hosting the annual ceremony in Gainesville this year but "we look forward to future 9/11 ceremonies at the Public Safety Memorial now under construction at Roosevelt Square (in downtown Gainesville)."
