BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Piedmont College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2016 season on Tuesday, knocking off Birmingham-Southern College 2-1 on the road.
The Lady Lions controlled the first half, outshooting the Panthers 10-4 but could not find of the back of the net as the two stood scoreless at half.
Piedmont continued to apply pressure to the back line of the home team finding opportunities behind the Panther defense before finally breaking through with a Cassidy Reich score in the 71st minute.
Reich's score came on a brilliant through ball from classmate Sarah Weber, the first of two quality combinations through movement from the front runners wearing Green and Gold. Just a half dozen minutes later, a run from senior Megan Hatfield opened a passing lane for Jazmin Penado to slip a ball through to forward Erin Bright, who cut inside and smashed one to the far top corner for a 2-0 lead.
BSC would pick up a goal with less than five to play to make it close, but the contest had been decided by that point with Piedmont coming away with the road win, their first victory of the '16 season.
