Women's Soccer Places Five on West Division All-Conference Listing

By AccessWDUN Staff

A day after the Piedmont College women's soccer team sealed a spot in the USA South quarterfinals, the conference announced that five Lady Lions were included in All-Conference teams.

The USA South produced an honors list containing athletes from both divisions as well as first team and second team honors in each division. All awards are voted on by the women's soccer coach at each institution with the divisional team voting completed only by those coaches in the particular division.

Earning her second straight all-conference nod was Cassidy Reich, last year's Player and Rookie of the Year. Reich scored eight goals this season as a sophomore, ranking seventh in the league.

Joining her on the first team West Division list was veteran Savannah Castles, who tallied eight goals to tie Reich as the top scorer on the year for PC. Four of Castles' eight scores were gamewinners as all four of those came in conference contests for Piedmont.

As the third of four Lady Lions on the West Division 1st Team, junior Tori Gillett was one of Piedmont's most creative players accounting for seven assists on the season to lead the team in that category. Two of those seven assists came just the other day in Piedmont's postseason win over HC.

The final 1st team selection went to senior defender Marissa Akin who helped Piedmont to nine shutouts this season, her fourth along the back line for the Lady Lions. In nine of Piedmont's last 13 games, Akin's defense has helped Piedmont hold their opposition to two shots or less per game.

Jazmin Penado rounded out the West Division All-Conference listing for PC taking 2nd team honors in her sophomore season. Penado posted a pair of assists and also added a goal to earn her award in the midfield for the Lady Lions.

Sophomore Samantha Ishee was Piedmont's All-Sportsmanship honoree joining one member from each of the 16 teams in the league.

As the No. 3 seed out of the West Division, the Lady Lions won their first round contest on Wednesday 4-0 over visiting Huntingdon College earning the right to move on to the Quarterfinals set for Saturday. Piedmont will travel to Covenant College for that contest set to kickoff at 3 p.m.
