Big first half leads Commerce to 8-A opening win

COMMERCE — Commerce opened its Region 8-A schedule in impressive style Friday night with a 49-15 rout of Hebron Christian at Ray Lamb Stadium.

The Tigers (2-0, 1-0 Region 8-A) scored in every phase getting a pair of defensive touchdowns, a special teams score, a touchdown pass, and two long touchdown runs.

Commerce exploded for 28 first quarter points. Austin Brock opened the scoring with a 6-yard run, Cole Chancey got a 46-yard interception return, Kyre Ware returned a punt 59 yards, and quarterback Lane Sorrow found Matthew Flint for a 65-yard touchdown pass for a 28-0 lead after just 12 minutes.

In the second quarter Sorrow scored on a 60-yard run and Chancey added a 73-yard touchdown run and went into halftime with a 42-6 lead.

Brook closed out the Tigers scoring in the second half with a 48-yard interception return.

Commerce will travel to Lakeview Academy next week for another Region 8-A battle.
