UPDATE: Investigators say 5-month-old baby girl suffered four injuries while in care of Gillsville woman

By B.J. Williams
A babysitter has been charged with felony child cruelty after a baby suffered broken bones while under the woman's care.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said the injuries to the 5-month-old infant occurred between May 11 and June 11 of this year at the home of 38-year-old Robin Carter Capulin on Rolling Ridge Drive in Gillsville.

The victim - a baby girl - suffered four separate injuries, including a fractured right femur, a fractured left tibia and a fractured right tibia, as well as a spiral fracture to the left humerus.

"The spiral fracture to the humerus would be consistent with someone grabbing and twisting someone's arm," said Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware.

Ware said investigators reported Capulin failed to seek medical attention for the baby and did not notify the baby's mother of the injuries. The mother became suspicious when she noticed something that appeared to be a rash on the baby's body and took the child to the hospital.

"The mother had the child looked at at the [Northeast Georgia] Medical Center and they, of course, went to Scottish Rite after that," Ware said. "As a result of the examinations, that's when the extent of the injuries was discovered."

Ware said he did not know what the relationship was between the mother and Capulin. He said there is no indication at this point that anyone else was involved with the injuries to the baby.

Capulin was arrested Wednesday morning. At last report, she remained in the Hall County Jail.
