Evans returns to Clarkesville City Council

CLARKESVILLE — The Clarkesville City Council now has a full panel again following the installation of Councilwoman Tina Courson Evans Monday night.

A former councilwoman, Evans was elected to the Post 1 seat to fill the unexpired term of Barrie C. Aycock, who was elected mayor following the death of Dr. Terry Greene.

Following Monday night's meeting, Evans said, "It was a full agenda. I'm glad to be back. I'm glad to see the progress the council has made in my absence on things that actually started when I was on the council before. I'm honored to be able to serve the citizens of Clarkesville."

Evans first was elected to the city council in 2007 to fill the unexpired term of Joyce Wilbanks. She was re-elected in 2009, and was defeated by Aycock for the Post 1 seat in 2013.

She defeated Bobby Kilgore, receiving 61 percent of the votes in the Clarkesville Special Election on May 24.

Evans' term continues through Dec. 31, 2017.
